A tentative date has finally been set for the end of the over four-month old strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities. According to reports, the academic body might call off the industrial action, that has kept university students at home, on Thursday. The National Executive Committee of ASUU is reportedly expected to meet on Wednesday to deliberate on matters pertinent to the strike and its objectives. Nigerian Eye reports: The union met with a Federal Government team led by President Goodluck Jonathanlast Tuesday in Abuja. The ASUU leadership, after briefing the zonal coordinators on the offer, had directed the local branches to organise congress meetings between Friday last week and Tuesday (tomorrow). This is to enable all the lecturers to make input into the action the union would take after its NEC meeting on Thursday. In a recent interview with a national newspaper, movie producer and director, Kunle Afolayan, revealed why he rarely features his brothers – Gabriel and Aremu – in his movies. “It would be a wrong casting if I feature my brothers in a movie because I want them to be a part of the production. I know some families in the industry that does that and I have explained it to them before. It is absolutely wrong casting. I can’t imagine me playing the role of a policeman in a movie, while Gabriel plays the criminal. It is very wrong. The only way you can justify such casting is if he plays my brother. A doctor in Benue State charged with the care and preservation of lives has done the opposite of his duty as he allegedly raped a patient on admission in his hospital. The situation is made worse by reports that the alleged rapist doctor is HIV positive. The suspect has been arrested by police officers in the state after news of the crime was released. The unidentified doctor reportedly practices at Tersoo Clinic in Naka town in the Gwer West Local Government Area of the state. Bianca Ojukwu Some members of the late Ikemba Nnewi, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu’s family have alleged that the widow of the deceased, Bianca, is greedy by laying claim to some assets of her late husband. In a 19-paragraph statement of defence filed before a Lagos High Court, Igbosere, the Ojukwu Transport Limited and seven family members challenged Bianca to prove her claims in the suit which she instituted on behalf of her two underage sons. The two sons – Afamefuna and Nwachukwu – are the claimants on record in the suit numbered, LD/1539/2012. The Ojukwu Transport Limited, which is the property in dispute in the suit, is the first defendant. The Sallah festivities ended in sadness for some families in Kwara State after a stampede reportedly left at least 10 people dead and others injured. The incident occurred near the residence of former Governor of the state, Dr. Bukola Saraki, during the yearly Sallah ceremony which involved the presentation of gifts. Present at the ceremony were members of the Peoples Democratic Party and other citizens looking to receive Sallah gifts from Saraki and others during the event which held at the  PDP Charity House in the Ilofa area of the state. Bruno Metsu, the UAE’s 2007 Gulf Cup-winning coach, died on Tuesday following a battle with cancer. He was 59. The Frenchman rose to fame when he led Senegal to a surprise 1-0 victory over his home country in the opening game of the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He was diagnosed with colon cancer shortly after replacing Argentine coach Diego Maradona at Dubai’s Al Wasl club in July 2012, but this was later said to have spread to his lungs and liver. He passed away at a clinic in his hometown of Coudekerque Village in Northern France. He will be remembered as one of the greatest coaches in UAE football history, having won both the national team’s first Gulf Cup in 2007 and the country’s first Asian Champions League title with Al Ain in 2003. Daniel Blatt, who produced the 1981 cult horror film The Howling , the 1976 telefilm Raid on Entebbe and the epic 1984 sci-fi miniseries V: The Final Battle, died Oct. 9 of pancreatic cancer at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. A 33 year old man is on the run after murdering his wife with acid. On Friday October 11th, a man named Sunday Eze from Obiofia Nnewichi Nnewi in Anambra State, went to his father-in-law's house at Edoji Uruagu to see his estranged wife, 23 year old Ebere Eze (Nee Agwuncha) who had moved back to her father's house after falling out with her husband. The victim's in-law said Sunday came to the house that Friday and claimed he had recently bought new plots of land he wanted his wife to see. He managed to convince Ebere to go with him to go see the land. As they approached Oraifite/Ichi axis in Ekwusigo Local Government, Sunday Eze turned on his wife and attacked her. He beat her with iron and poured acid on her. He then forced some of the acid down her throat. A final year student of Lagos State Polytechnic, Ibrahim Oluwaseun , 26, has been killed by suspected cult members at his parents’ home in Somolu area of Lagos. The deceased, a student of Business Administration, was said to have been preparing to defend his final year project this week when he was killed on Friday night.
